Have been coming up to the island since childhood...just got married there May 9th! It was an absolute fairytale. We'll remember it always and will have to come back at least once a year from now on!

We just got back from our first trip to MackinAc Island. It was to celebrate our 8th anniversary. This place is the best kept little secret in the country!! A very magical and romantic setting. We want to come back soon. We are even thinking about buying a summer house here!! It truly is a place to fall in love all over again!

I worked as a waiter in the grand hotel the summer of 1979 from may to october, met and made many friends there, and being a drummer, even got the chance to play with a band at one of the clubs we used to go to.The band was named Desserts, but what i have fond memories of is my loving relationship with a girl by the name of Sandy Morgenstern that summer. If you ever see this entry,it would be nice to hear from you again. My e-mail is wfatstein57@comcast.net My stay there was magical.

I took a trip to Mackinac Island with my orchestra, band and choir teachers to explore the place. We stayed at a hotel(not Grand Hotel) with three other room mates. We got a carige ride like half the day the next morning. Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City is the best place to go in Michigan. It was an awsome expiriance

I will always remember the beauty of the Island. My husband, myself, and our four young sons visited there in 1972 while visiting my mother and stepfather in Marinette, Wisconsin. They both moved back to Canada and have since passed away but would surely love to visit that beautiful place some day, although it does seem quite impossible.

Erika,
The island is wonderful! It will be like you stepped into a period movie when you get off the ferry as you hear the clip clop of horse's hooves but also actually smell those smells that go along with that! It's a cliche', but you do feel like you've stepped back in time. You'll love it! As for working there, you will probably put in long hours and may not get much opportunity to enjoy the features of the island. On your day off, get a new co-worker or friend to go on a bike ride with you. Find out where the soldier was hid in a cave (cool story), go to the fort, explore the inner island. See arch rock. The town shops you can visit when you have a smaller window of time. Also, you may just want to find a place on the lawn by the marina to just gaze out on the awesome view and write notes to home. You WILL have something to write home about. Hope you have a wonderful summer!
