I've never been to the island, but we are planning a family trip. Any swimming type beaches on the island? My two younger children love the beach. Any suggestions for family-friendly hotels? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Cindy- I've been to Mackinac Island MANY times, and I also have friends who work out there, you are better off taking a carriage tour if you don't want to pass out from biking up the MASSIVE hills!! If you go up to Surry Hill (past the Grand Hotel, by the butterfly house) you will find the Carriage Tours there. These are the tours you want to go on. It will take you past the Governor's mansion, Fort Mackinac, and to Arch Rock, which is BEAUTIFUL!! I recommend you go on this tour. Hope this helps a little!

We are visiting Mackinac for the first time this year. Should we tour in the carriage or bikes? Thanks for anyone's suggestions!

This island means so much to our family....from my maternal grandparents and mom's many visits in years past to our honeymoon in July, 2003. We love the island so much that we must return this year! We're bringing mom for her first stay on the island the week of July 4, 2005. We are already so excited and are looking forward to bringing our bikes this trip. Just like my grandparents, we're continuing to build memories that will last for lifetimes. Thanks, Mackinac Island!!

My first visit to Mackinac Island was this past weekend (May 20-23, 2005). I needed to do a 2 hour training run for a half marathon in a few weeks. The trails on the island made it the easiest 2 hours of running I have ever experienced. The island is beautiful, even when it rains. My husband and I really enjoyed our kayak trip with the Mackinac Island Kayak Company. We will be back with our kids to enjoy the many things we couldn't fit into the weekend.

I have never been to Mackinac Island, but I look forward going this summer with my children. I've viewed the web page and have seen beutiful things of this place and I have a great facination with anything that has to do with historical themes. Just recently I watched a latin soap opera filmed in Mexico with a historical theme and i loved their dresses and the lifestyle lived in those years. Now I want to be able to experience this with my children and at Mackinac Island I see I will have a wonderful time and I look forward to such a great time.

I haven't been to the island for 3 years. This year is going to be the best since this is the only place that truly feels like home & best of all, my family & fiance are coming the day of the Lilac Festival. How wonderful it will be to return to a place that I call home.
