I grew up in Belmont MI (near Rockford & Grand Rapids) and have fond memories of going to the Island on holiday with my family. My boyfriend, a native of California, first visited there with me in Sept 1996. He loved it - we stayed at The Grand Hotel and bowled at the duckpin alley at Scotty's Bar. We returned during the fall of 2001 and I am happy to say that our memories of the post 9/11 tragedy were tempered by visting the historic Fort and realizing that Mackinac is was and will always be worth fighting for, due to its natural beauty. It is worth noting that eating fudge to keep up one's strength, goes without saying!

I am so lucky to live only 2 hours from Mackinaw City!! Each year my hubby and I go to the island with our bikes and ride the number of years we have been married. Next week we are going there to ride 38 miles around and thru the island. You can't believe how beautiful the areas are that most visitors don't see. There are trails behind the huge houses, there is even a subdivision for the folks who live year round, funny thing is, they have no garages!! The Island is such a cozy place to tour, we are probably the only ones who DON"T go to the stores to buy stuff or fudge. There is so much to see inland that we just don't take the time to be buying stuff. Try to find the place where Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour stood for the movie "Somewhere in Time", there is a sign that will tell you. Go visit the horses as they rest and have a meal---take your time walking behind the houses to see how unique they are. One week from today, I'll be there.

Will be returning to Mackinac during my "color run" this year. I look forward to this trip all year long and love it when I'm here. Hope to see all my friends at the "Chip" too.

I was first introduced to Mackinaw City and the Island as a young girl on "the family vacation." There was something that intrigued me then, as it still does now that I am well into my forties. My husband and I go up and stay on the Island every year. To experience the amazing hospitality and quaint surroundings of Island is something that we will never forget. Mackinaw City and the Island are both filled with historical and entertaining fun facts... even for those that just like watching the people. We generally stay at the Murray Hotel. At the end of an eventful day, we sit on the porch and watch the sun set on the lake. We then go to the pool/spa at our hotel, followed by a walk up main street for some local entertainment. Of all the natural wonders in the United States, Mackinaw is my personal "slice of heaven." ENJOY!

I spent a summer working on Mackinac Island during my teen years, and now, in my 30's, I continue to vacation there each summer. I've recently introduced my elder son to the magic and beauty and history of the island, and he would rather vacation there than anywher else. I look very forward to our annual trip up to Mackinac this Labor Day weekend! It's the most beautiful and unique place I've ever been.

I have been to mackinac island several times and it NEVER loses it's charm. I love the ambience the island affords, and will continue to vacation there for many years to come. What an oasis.

Loved Mackinac Island traveled by ferry and enjoyed walking the streets as well as taking the carriage tour. My husband and I thought Mackinac was a very romantic place. Our entire vacation was wonderful and we look forward to coming back someday.
